Ceramic tint for Utah heat.

Dark glass isn't the same as cool glass.
Any film makes a window darker. What separates ceramic from the cheap stuff is what it does to the part of sunlight you actually feel on your arm and on the back of your neck. Ogden sits at about 4,300 feet, the air is thin and dry, and the sun coming through a windshield here has more bite than it does at sea level.
Then there's the interior. Black leather, black dash, black plastic trim — every one of them soaks up sun all day and radiates it back at you after you get in. That's why a car can be uncomfortable for ten minutes even with the air conditioning on full. Ceramic film cuts the heat before it lands on those surfaces instead of after.

Two ceramics. One decision.
They look almost identical parked next to each other. The difference shows up in August, in a car that's been sitting in the sun since nine in the morning. These are XPEL's published best numbers for each film; the exact figure depends on the shade you choose.

The first number is the share of the sun's heat the film keeps out of the cabin. The second is the part of that heat you actually feel on your skin, which is the number worth caring about.
Pick Hybrid if…
You park in a garage most nights, your commute is short, or the interior is a light colour. Hybrid Ceramic is the best value on the board and it's what Landon runs on his own vehicles. Most people who come in asking for “the ceramic one” leave in this.
Pick Nano if…
The car lives outside, you have a black interior or a big glass roof, you tow in July, or you have kids in car seats behind you. Nano Ceramic blocks up to 88% of the heat you feel, and it's the one people tell us they'd buy again.
Either film comes in a range of shades, from one that lets about 70% of the light through for a windshield or a light front, down to a very dark rear. We'll set the front two to Utah's limit — they have to let 43% of light through or more — and you can go as dark as you like behind the driver.

What ceramic won't do.
Ceramic film gets oversold. Here's the part nobody puts on a banner: it makes a hot car noticeably less hot, it doesn't make it cold, and no film turns off the sun.
- It won't replace air conditioning — it gives the air conditioning less to fight
- It won't stop glare off snow from the side windows if you go light on shade
- It won't change the front-window rule in Utah — ceramic or not, 43% is 43%
- It won't protect your paint — that's paint protection film and ceramic coating
- It won't fix old film underneath — that comes off first, see tint removal
What it does do is make the first two minutes in a parked car bearable, keep the back seat from cooking, and take 99% of the UV off your left arm on I-15. That last one is why we opened.
