Window film being squeegeed onto glass at Ogden Window Tinting

The glass that cooks you.

Your windshield is the biggest piece of glass on the car and the one pointed straight at the sun. A clear or very light ceramic film across it is the single biggest drop in cabin heat you can buy. From $199.

Why up front

Tint the sides, skip the windshield, stay hot.

People tint the doors and the back, drive off happy, and the car is still warm inside. That's because the windshield is bigger than any other window on the vehicle, it's laid back at an angle that catches the sun for most of the day, and it's the piece nobody thinks to cover.

Everything the windshield lets through lands on the dash, the wheel and your hands. That's the heat radiating back at you at a stoplight, the hot steering wheel in a parking lot, and the reason the air conditioning takes so long to catch up. It's also where a good share of the UV hitting you in the car comes from — and Utah has the highest melanoma rate in the country, which is a bad combination with a long commute.

  • Blocks 99% of UV across the biggest window on the car
  • Cooler dash, cooler wheel, air conditioning that catches up sooner
  • Clear or very light film — almost nothing changes about the view
  • Cut by computer for your exact windshield, around sensors and the mirror mount
  • Same lifetime XPEL warranty as the rest of the car
The Utah rule

Above the line.

Utah allows film on the windshield above the factory line near the top of the glass — the faint marking most windshields carry a few inches down from the roof. Everything we do up front is built around that line.

Top

Where film is allowed

Film is allowed above that factory line near the top of the windshield. We'll point it out on your car before anything gets cut, so you can see exactly where it falls.

Clear

A full windshield film

A film across the whole windshield is a clear or very light film. We install it to the Utah limit — nothing that darkens your view of the road, just the heat and UV taken out.

Band

Or just a sun strip

A visor band across the top instead of the whole glass. It lives entirely in the part Utah allows and it kills the low sun coming over the Wasatch on the drive home.

We install to the Utah limits as written. If you want something outside them, we'll tell you honestly rather than cut it and hand you a ticket. The rest of the state's rules — 43% of light through on the front sides, any darkness behind the driver — are laid out on the automotive tint page.

Installed prices

Windshield on its own.

These prices are for the windshield by itself, film and labour included. Most people add it to a full car instead — ask and we'll quote the pair together.

Sun strip, sunroof, panoramic roof and old-film removal are quoted on request — they depend on the vehicle and the glass, so we price them when we see the car. Full-car pricing starts at $279 on the automotive tint page, and the two ceramic films are compared on the ceramic tint page.

How it goes

One piece. No seams.

A windshield is the hardest piece of glass in the car to do well. It's big, it's curved in two directions, and there's nowhere to hide a mistake because you look through it every second you drive.

Cut by computer

Your exact year, make and model is loaded and the pattern is cut before the film goes near the car. No blade ever touches your glass.

Glass cleaned twice

Anything left on the glass shows up forever under a clear film, so the windshield gets cleaned, dried and checked in the light before we start.

Shaped to the curve

Flat film on a curved windshield has to be shaped with heat until it lies down without a single crease. This is the part that takes the years of practice.

Sensors worked around

Rain sensor, camera housing and mirror mount are all accounted for in the pattern, so nothing gets covered that shouldn't be.

Set and checked

Squeegeed out by hand, edges finished, then looked at from the driver's seat — because that's the only angle that matters.

Give it a few days to dry out. A little haze while the film settles is normal, and it clears on its own. In colder weather it takes longer.

Worth asking about

While the car is here.

All quoted on request, because they depend on the vehicle and the glass. Ask when you book and we'll price it on the spot.

Questions

Before you book.

Is windshield film legal in Utah?
Utah allows film on the windshield above the factory line near the top of the glass. A film across the whole windshield is a clear or very light film, and we install it to the Utah limit. We'll show you exactly where that line falls on your car before we cut anything.
Can you see it?
Barely. A clear or very light ceramic windshield film looks like glass from outside and changes almost nothing about how the road looks from the driver's seat. What changes is the heat coming off the glass at your hands and your face.
What does it cost?
Windshield only is $199 in Color Stable, $249 in Hybrid Ceramic and $349 in Nano Ceramic, film and labour included. A sun strip is quoted on request. Adding it to a full car is cheaper than two separate visits.
What's a sun strip?
A band of film across the top of the windshield, in the same part of the glass Utah allows film on. It takes the low sun coming over the Wasatch out of your eyes on the drive home. Quoted on request, and usually added to a full car.
Will it affect my rain sensor or camera?
No. Rain sensors, cameras and the mirror mount all get worked around. The pattern is cut by computer for your exact windshield, so those areas are accounted for before the film ever touches the glass.

Live generously.

The biggest window on your car is the one nobody covers. Bring it to 5804 Harrison Blvd and we’ll fix that.
